Document Summary

Observe the results in the sample and then make inferences about the population. Population: group of individuals from which a sample is drawn. Sample: group of individuals in a study; a subset of a population of interest. Probabilistic trend: generalizations that hold in most situations, but not in all cases . eg. in medicine. As sample size increases, the more the probabilistic trend in a sample will reflect the population. All other things being equal, larger samples are more likely to reflect the population. Small samples can often be unrepresentative of the population. Inferential statistics allow us to arrive at conclusions about the population on the basis of the sample. The gambler"s fallacy no matter how many times we flipping the coins its still 50% and sometimes it will biases people making decision. We see links between events that are independent. Expect the outcome of previous events to affect the next outcome.
