By the late 17th century britain and france entered an imperial war that spread into a colonial war as well. The first nations played a very important role in that war. There were many peace treaties formed, in 1760 the french forces capitulated in montreal while the english took over the continent. In the early 17th century the english joined the search for the northwest passage. The explorer henry hudson made several excursions to find the passage. At some point his crew members captured him and his son and sent them adrift. After time the motivation to find the passage became less attractive as it became less attainable since it was not a viable route anymore.
