Psych 102 chapter 14 (stress and health) Life has its stressors specific events or chronic pressures that place demands on aa person or threaten the person"s well-being. Stress the physical and psychological response to internal or external stressors. Health psychology the subfield of psychology concerned with the ways psychological factors influence the causes and treatment of physical illness and maintenance of health. People often seem to get sick after major life events: can looks at college undergraduate stress scale, positive events produce less psychological distress and fewer physical symptoms. Chronic stressors sources of stress that occur continuously or repeatedly: strained relationships, bulling, overwork or money problems, can accumulate to produce distress and illness. Discrimination can lead to physiological, cognitive, and behavioral changed that in the short term prepare a person for action, but in the long-term could lead to negative health outcomes. Stressors challenge you to do something to take some action to eliminate or overcome the stressor.
