Learning objectives: discuss reasons for conducting survey research. Survey research: questionnaires and interviews carefully designed to ask people information about themselves. This includes their attitudes, beliefs, demographics, intended future behaviours, etc. They provide us with a method for people to tell us about themselves and are important sources of data. Surveys let companies get feedback about their products and allow cities to plan future investments and create policies and programs accordingly depending on the data they receive. In basic research qualities such as attitudes, emotional stresses and states, self-reports of behaviour are all easily studied using questionnaires or interviews. The attitudes and behaviours that change over time or among different groups of people. It"s important because it serves as a complement to experimental research multiple studies are needed to understand any behaviour: surveys are good starting points for exploring phenomena.
