Can be defined as the continuities, consistencies and stabilities in people over time and the ways in which people change over time. Rank order stability maintenance of individual position within a group. If people tend to maintain their positions on dominance relative to others over time, there is high rank order stability to those personality characteristics. Mean level stability the stability of the trait in the group: eg. if the average level of liberalism in a group remains the same over time, the group exhibits high mean level stability. Difference is that 8yo show dominance by showing toughness in rough-and-tumble play, while 20yo show it by persuading people to accept their views in political discussions. Population level: this level of personality development deals with the changes and constancies that apply more or less to everyone: eg. everyone in the population tends to increase in sexual motivation at puberty.
