Genome refers to the complete set of genes an organism possesses. Part of the reason for the controversy is ideological. Many people worry that findings from behavioral genetics will be used (misused) to support particular political agendas. Eugenics notion that we can design the future of the human species by fostering the reproduction of persons with certain traits and by discouraging the reproduction of persons without those traits. Some people may be eliminated in order to create the master race. Behavioural geneticists are not content simply with figuring out the percentage of variance due to genetic and environmental causes. They are interested in figuring out the ways in which genes and environment interact and correlate with each other and figuring out precisely where in the environment the effects are taking place. A statistic that refers to the proportion of observed variance in a group of individuals that can be accounted for by genetic variance.
