Erikson"s eight stages of development erikson believed that important periods of development occur throughout the life span. Karen horney and a feminist interpretation of psychoanalysis: questioned some of the more paternalistic notions of freudian psychoanalysis and reformulated some of the ideas to generate a more feminist perspective on personality development. Eg. penis envy not physiological but a metaphor for social power: according to horney, girls realize that they are being denied social power because of their gender. Emphasis on self and the notion of narcissism. Object relations theory emphasizes social relationships and their origins in childhood.
