The management hierarchy: top managers (ceo, cfo, executives) spend most of their time developing long-range plans for their organizations. They set a direction for their organization and inspire others to achieve their vision for the company"s future: middle managers (gm, plant/division/branch managers) focus their attention on specific operations, products or customer groups. Managerial skills: technical skills- ability to understand and use the techniques, knowledge, tools and equipment of a specific department or area of study. Interpersonal (human) skills- ability to communicate with, motivate and lead employees to complete their assignments: conceptual skills. Measuring managerial performance: efficiency- the amount of resources incurred to produce goods and services (doing things right, effectiveness- how well the organization is doing in meetings its goals (doing the right things) Quarterly and semi- annual plans, departmental policies and procedures. Daily and weekly plans, rules and procedures for each department.
