Intercultural Communication  Exam:  50 t/f. 50 mc  half of exam on material based on everything after last midterm and the other half on everything from 1&2  midterms.  Sustainability principle:  Intercultural communication can be oscillate between the poles of universalism and relativism, without  settling on either.  Ethics are viewed as a compound of universalism and relativism. All ethical systems involve tensions  between what is universal and what is relative.  Five approaches to ethics;  o Golden law; focus on inherent goodness, or badness of peoples actions. Law applies to everyone.  What is good/bad for one is good/bad for all.  o Golden Purse; bsed on the notion of power, physical strength, wealth and et. “he who has the gold”  o Golden consequences; grounded in the outcomes of people actions; ethical decisions are based on  what will bring the most good for the most people.  o Golden mean; right behavior as a blending of opposites. An ethical choice is a happy medium between  two extremes. (example: cowardice­ foolhardiness, the golden mean is courage)  o Golden rule: we should act toward people from other cultures as we woul
