Excerpts from jane Doe Reading #8
Everyone knows something about Rape.
Story told about a woman being raped by a stranger.
She goes into shock after calling the police becomes very quiet.
Became scared of even the police officers investigating the scene “I was placed in a
situation where I was expected to trust these strangers to protect me, to fix what the bad
man had done to me. As if my rape had RENDERED me SENSELESS & USELESS.”
Was asked the same questions over and over about what happened at her home, and the
hospital after having a rape kit.
It was believed that a serial rapist raped her, and had done the same to others who looked
similar to her & lived on the 3 or 4 floor of apartment buildings.
She became enraged at the fact that the police, or no one told her that her life was in
The officer said, “ we have a policy about these things, and we followed it.
She then understood that it was about police procedure, not about crime prevention. Not
about protecting or serving.
Chapter3 of excerpts of the book:

Doctor told her to burn sage in her apartment so she would stop feeling like she
smelled the rapist in her home
Home started to feel like home again.
Learned that the rapist used a piece of one of her dresses as a mask.. it was taken
to be examined
Police kept wanting to do interviews & asking the same questons over and over
Learned she was a woman in her 30s at the time of the rape
sees on the news a similar case to hers where the police did not take a womans
rape seriously until 3 other people reported the similar rape.

When the police found out that they had been communicating, they yelled at her
and said that they could be arrested for interfering with the case.
