Document Summary

Anomie- refers to a morally deregulated conditions in which people have inadequate moral controls over their behavior/ this is the breakdown. Societies evolved from a simple, nonspecialized form (mechanical) to a complex, highly specialized form (organic) In a mechanic people behave and think similarly and generally perform most of the same work tasks and have group-oriented goals as society becomes more complex, so does the work become more specialized and complex. Modern, organic societies are characterized by highly interactive sets of relationships, and individual goals. The gov was mainly responsible for the societies problems- society was simply in a state of deregulation. Parsons saw society as a product of an equilibrium of forces that swrved to produce order. When the various components of the social structure became unbalanced this is when it was mostly one sided and society became disorganized.
