Stigma around being women and being old and having been incarcerated. Prisons were not meant for the elderly (mostly meant for younger men). Structurally there are issues for designs of institutions (cell size, wheelchair access, etc. Even fast food prices are rising and very hard to eat healthy. Having around for groceries and hygiene is very difficult. Kids don"t want grandchildren to be exposed to incarcerated grandmother. Number of visits for men is substantially higher than women. Risk assessment tools targeted at young adult males. Need better assessment tool for women and aging people. Risk assessment affected by poverty, employment history, etc. Structural factor = negative score. mental deterioration of imprisonment and fear. Solitary confinement due to acting out because of mental illness. Makes them feel more isolated more issues.
