Document Summary

Learning: relatively permeant change in behaviour/emotions/ thoughts as a result of experience. 2 men, hitler and gandhi: same goal but different approached: we are adaptable/flexible because of learning. Can be good force or evil (e. g. violence vs. respect) Learning offers hope what is learned can be unlearned (e. g. violence) 3 major ways by which we learn: classical conditioning, operant, observational learning. Classical conditioning: learn to associate 2 events/stimuli: one event reliably announces other event (adaptive, allows us to anticipate + prepare (e. g. tornado/ fire alarm); know sounds of danger, pavlov"s experiment. Food (unconditioned stimulus, us) salivation (unconditioned response, ur: unconditioned: no learning required, dogs naturally salivate with food) Bell + food salivation (because of food, or the unconditioned stimulus) Repeatedly did, ultimately: sound of bell alone=salivation so: Bell (conditioned stimulus, cs) salivation (conditioned response, cr): dog learned to respond to bell.
