Document Summary
Chapter 2 the biology of the mind: Informaion systems of humans and other animals operate similarly. Neuron = nerve cell (basic building block of the nervous system) Sensory neurons = carry messages from issues/sensory organs inwards to the brain/spinal cord. Motor neurons = neurons carrying outgoing informaion from the brain/spinal cord to the muscles/glands. Interneurons = neurons w/in the brain/spinal cord that communicate internally and intervene between the sensory inputs/motor outputs (most abundant of the neurons) Myelin sheath = layer of faty issue around neuron ibers, enabling greater transmission speed of impulses (impulse hops from node to node: degeneraion muliple sclerosis. Acion potenial = neural impulse (brief electrical charge that travels down an axon) Resing potenial = (+)ve outside/(-)ve inside state of neuron"s pm. All-or-none response = increasing level of simulaion doesn"t mean ++intense neural intensity. Synapse = juncion between the axon ip of sending neuron and dendrite/cell body of receiving neuron.
