Document Summary
Personality = an individual"s characterisic patern of thinking, feeling, and acing. Sigmund freud"s psychoanalyic theory proposed that childhood sexuality and unconscious moivaions inluence personality. The humanisic approach focused on our inner capaciies for growth and self- fulillment. Psychodynamic theories = view personality with a focus on the unconscious and the importance of childhood experience. Psychodynamic theories of personality view human behaviour as a dynamic interacion between the conscious/unconscious mind, including associated moives and conlicts: descended from freud"s psychoanalysis (focused clinical atenion on our unconscious mind) W/out realizing their source, we may speak of ego, repression, projecion, complex, sibling rivalry, freudian slips, and ixaion. Freud speculated that some neurological disorders have psychological causes: ex. Lost hand feeling via a fear of touching one"s genitals. Central to freud"s theory = the mind is mostly hidden: conscious awareness ~part of an iceberg that loats above the surface, beneath our awareness = larger unconscious.
