Structural development can be studied and correlated with the emergence of behavior brain development predicts behavioral developments. For example, frontal lobe development will predict social development. Behavioral development can be analyzed and predictions can be made about what underlying circuitry must be emerging. This means that behavioral development can also predict brain development. Factors that influence both brain and behavioral development can be studied. For example, hormones/genes, experiences, injuries can all be used to study brain and behavior. Neural plate (3 weeks after conception) :thickened region of the ectodermal layer that gives rise to the neural tube. The groove then curls to form the neural tube. open region in center of neural tube remains open and matures into brain"s ventricles and the spinal canal. Day 49: embryo begins to resemble a miniature person. Genitals and brain regions (stimulated by hormone testosterone in male ebryos) 7 months: gyri and sulci begin to form. 9 months: brain looks like an adult brain.
