Peter berger first describes what sociology is not. Sociology is not the same as social work and the people in sociology who think it is the same thing have made a big mistake. When studying economic, anthropology, you study an area of social life but you do not derive from there what you do in social life, you can be a brilliant scientist but you might have poor political skills. In sociology you will understand the social meaning but it doesn"t tell and explain what you should do, that why you need to base your actions on certain values. It is a personal decision of what is right and wrong, sociology doesn"t tell you what to do in the social field. Berger talks about moving, attitude of the people who do social work and come up against human realities. And that sociology is not a theory of social work. Sociology doesn"t teach you how to become a social reformer.
