One of the greatest aspects of conducting aids research within the usa is the diversity of the players who have participated in the construction of credible knowledge. Many individuals and activists from various disciplines create complex interactions among them. The idea here is not that it is heavily politicized but shows that activist movements with different forms of credulity can become genuine members of constructing scientific knowledge. This is the danger in trying to still perceive lay persons as passive. Activist movements can advance their own strategic goals within science, construct new social relations and identities, institutions and new means of beliefs. Aids activists did not simply gained influence by applying political means but found ways of demonstrating themselves as credible within the arena of credential expertise. They changed the rules of the game, the definition of what counts as credibility in scientific research.
