BIO152H5 Chapter 13: BIO152 - CHP 13
Document Summary
Chapter 13 - meiosis and sexual life cycles. Genes - coded information in the form of hereditary units. Locus - a gene"s specific location along the length of a chromosome. Asexual reproduction - a single individual is the sole parent and passes copies of all it"s genes to it"s offspring without the fusion of gametes. Usually gives rise to a clone - group of genetically identical individuals. Sexual reproduction - two parents give rise to offspring that have unique combinations of genes inherited from the two parents. Offspring vary genetically from their siblings and parents. Life cycle - the sequence of stages from conception to production of an organism"s own offspring. 2 chromosome of each type (homologous chromosomes - a gene controlling a particular character is found at the same locus on each chromosome of a homologous pair. Karyotype - an ordered display of an individual"s condensed chromosomes. Sex chromosomes - determine the sex of a person.
