Once a firm has stated privacy policy, they must abide by it. Appear more trustworthy if you have one. Some sites are required to have privacy policies if they collect information from california residents, children under 13 or european customers. Web sites collect two kinds of data: personally identifiable information: identifiable to a specific individual (i. e. name, e-mail, phone, ssn etc. , aggregate information: general demographic information that does not identify any individual. General elements include what is being collected, whose collecting it how its being used. Specific elements include company name and address, what info is automatically logged. Cookie: a small text file stored on users computer to allow the site to authenticate the users identify, speed up transactions, monitor behavior, and personalize the presentation. Session id cookie: that expire when the browser is close. Persistent cookies: remain on the users hard drive.
