Forensic entomology is the study of insects and other arthropods associated with legal issues. Has a very broad definition and therefore, can encompass many different types of criminal cases. (green bottle) prefer sunny area, sacophagidae (flesh fly, phoridae (coffin fly, piophilidae (cheese skippers) Beetles: order: coleopters, eat larvae, not used to calculate pmi, silphidae---- arrive early in decomp, staphilinidae--- arrive early in decomp, histeridae, carabidae, dermestidae---interested in dry leathery skin. Physical traits are observed, such as skin: 5 stages in decomposition. Eg, 7 days, so victim dead at least 7 days. Eggs laid on the meat: beetle identification for a pharmaceutical company, living hosts.
