POL113H5 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Incomes Policy, Making Money, Authoritarianism
Document Summary
The great mistake of the last few years has been for the government to provide or to legislate for almost everything. Government is controlling every aspect of people"s lives now it"s all about making money. Hence compulsion on prices and incomes policy and with it the totally unacceptable notion that the government shall have the power to fix which wages and salaries should increase. Now there"s so much government involvement that people can"t get in a say and be involved with the decision process. Although there"s more government intervention, it"s becoming more and more distant from the people (authoritarianism). The way to increase people participating is not to increase their involvement with the government but to decrease the range/scope of power that the government has. People should be independent and not rely that much on the government. The most effective prices policy comes from the conservative way of seeing that competition flourishes.
