How do variations in consciousness relate to awareness: consciousness is the awareness of external and internal stimuli, as a result in is constantly moving, flowing fluctuating and wondering, it is in a constant flux. These cycle are reset by day-night cycle, which is why exposure to light influences wakefulness. When exposed to light activity in suprachiasmatic and pineal glands: secrete melatonin, is affected. Readjustment varies: 1 day (eastwards) and 2-3 days (westwards)
