Whether the person understands possible or likely consequences of proceedings. Whether the person is capable of communication with their lawyer. Person can be committed to psychiatric hospital against their will if a judgement is made that they are: mentally ill, a danger to themselves, or a danger to others. Commitment procedures fit into 2 categories: formal/judicial. Usually a request by police, a family member, or close friend. If judge has good reason to, mental health examination will occur.
