Document Summary

Homicide represents the ultimate violent act; homicide is the most devastating crime described in this book for both the victims, and his/her friends and family. Forensic psychologists have been studying for years trying to understand how people can kill one another and why this lethal form of violence has emerged in our society. Forensic psychologists are also interested in understanding the various forms of homicidal violence that exists. Forensic psychologists are also involved in the development of treatment programs to rehabilitate violent offenders, including those that have committed homicide, and they sometimes attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs; Canadian law recognizes four different types of homicide: (1) first degree murder. Max sentence is life imprisonment (25 years with no chance of parole) any murder not classified as first degree murder is second degree murder (2) second degree murder (3) manslaughter.
