Every culture focuses on the shaping and development of the child: good behaviors must be practiced. Adults expect kids to be satisfied when conforming to rules, and to express guilt when violating the rules. Children"s primary behaviors are initially controlled through external factors (punishment) Children"s secondary behaviors are controlled through the internalization of external factors. Internalization: when children incorporate other peoples" behaviors and thoughts into their own thoughts to create their own self-conduct. Cognitive: consideration of ethical rules that are used to separate good" from bad". Behavioral: when people"s behaviors in various situations causes a societal and ethical reaction. Emotional: when people"s feelings are considered within situations/behaviors that invokes moral & ethical decision making. The ability of a person to experience someone else"s emotions. Children"s moral development occurs in three stages: pre-moral stage, stage of moral realism, and morality of reciprocity/autonomous morality: must surpass moral realism before getting to morality of reciprocity.
