Document Summary

Types of realism: holy history, takes historical figures and portrays their stories to bring them closer to audience, usually reflect current social problems, mundane realism, usually focused on the real world, someone finding and taking a religious path, focuses on what can be seen and not what is internal in the character, music may suggest feelings of protagonist so no music is played, minimalist realism. Parabolic close to realistic, except represents story through metaphor or symbolism for example, shawshank redemption: dude goes to prison (purgatory) for crime he didn"t commit, only to realize he overlooked sins he commited that he ends up repenting for at first seems like realism story, but then suddenly at climax it becomes clear that what happened before was symbolic by showing what grace looks/feels like assumption is that the divine should be apprehended through metaphor because the divine nature is to bright and ungraspable.
