Sociology- a systematic study of human behavior in social context. Functionalism- a sociological school of thought that stresses how human behaviour is governed by social structures that are based mainly on shared values and that contribute to social stability (1 of four main types of explanation in sociology) A functionalist believes that we have fashion trends bc they enable social inequality to persist) we have fashion cycles because it catches on in the rich community and it helps them distinguish them from the poor and other classes. Now we know this is not true ^. Now they seem to be started by lower class and inner city styles. Social class- a position people occupy in a hierarchy that is shaped by economic criteria, including wealth and income. Theory- a conjecture about the way observed facts are related. Our identities are always in a flush and clothes help us express our shifts identities.
