Social theorists create explanations about the workings of societies and interactions between members of social groups. Macrosocial theory: focuses on society at the level of social structures and populations. Focuses on society on a large scale, explain social life at high levels of abstraction: societies, cities, nations. Microsocial theory: social theories and explanations about the concrete, small scale, narrow level of reality such as face-to-face interaction in small groups. Mesosocial theory: social theorists and explanations about the middle level of social reality between a broad and narrow scope, such as the development and operation of social organizations. Concepts: an idea expressed as a symbol or in words. Concept cluster: a collection of interrelated ideas that share common assumptions, belong to the same largest social theory, and referred to one another.
