However, government was trying to collect money he borrowed for maintenance engineer
training he did (school went bankrupt and never gave Primo the certificate)
Separated from Maria, but has close relationship with their child Primo Jr.
Second son Papito stayed with him after Sandra’s boyfriend beat him
Maria lost subsidized housing and gets support from Primo sometimes, but its monitored by
family courts who deduct the amount from her food stamps
Caesar no longer sells drugs, but still has crack binges
o Still receives SSI payments and beats wife Carmen and children
Candy no longer sells drugs or works
o Nurse’s aide program led her to job where they scam insurance

Angel and Manny live in apartment with mom where they store cocaine
o Manny is a runner
o Angel is a crack dealer and got arrested for attempting to shoot cab driver
Moreno is Puerto Rican slang for African-American
Caesar’s cousin Eddie works as bus driver
Abraham. Primo’s adopted grandfather, died of alcoholism and old age
Primo’s oldest sister doesn’t only manages McDonald’s part time to look for new job
Primo’s middle sister moved to New Jersey and receives child support, waiting for affordable
daycare so she can work
Primo’s younger sister bought a house and lives with her husband, a UPS delivery driver
Game room closed and is now legal video rental store

Two new crack houses: out of formerly legal hair dressing salon, other in front of Angel and
Manny’s building
Tenement where author lived, alongside Manny and Angel is becoming uninhabitable
La Farmacia’s corner hasn’t changed much even though social club closed, still has addicts
looking for drugs
Author lost defense mechanisms and was shocked at crack smoking pregnant moms again
