Document Summary

Part 3: distribution and abundance things we need to explain: Ecology: study of the factors determining the distribution and abundance of organisms. The most basic formulation of specie"s distribution is its geographical range, which simply comprises the areas of the planet where species may be found. Different climate effect organisms and resut in different characteristics of organisms. Rules of biome- level variation: first, places with more precipitation develop vegetation that is taller and usually more species-rich and productive than places that are drier. Second, warmer places support bigger and more complex vegetation than colder places. As we go up in latitude toward cold polar regions, or up in elevation towards cold mountain tops, plants diminish in stature until we reach the extreme tundra biomes. Third, seasonality of temperature and precipitation is alos important. If 2 regions hve same cycles with have same temperatures, but if one get summer and other get winter rain, they will support very different organisms.
