Biob51 lec 07 & 8 notes p. 387-389, 147-161, 163, 169-174. Another plasic to say that an individual"s phenotype is inluenced by its environment is to say that its phenotype is plasic. Phenotypic plasicity is itself a trait that can evolve, and it may or may not be adapive. Phenotypic plasicity in the behaviour of water fleas. Reproduce asexually most of the ime which makes them beneicial for researchers because they can manipulate them to be geneically idenical individuals in diferent environments and compare their phenotypes (cute litle leas in bioa02) A trait that can evolve in a populaion only if the populaion harbors geneic variaion for the trait. Grey lines connect tests of the same genotype. Geneic variaion for phenotypic plasicity is called genotype-by-environment interacion. New hypothesis: predaion by ish selects in favour of daphnia that avoid well-lit areas when ish are present. Tested by using daphnia eggs that are sill viable even ater being buried for decades.
