Modern geology was formed in the 18 century. Geologist use new method to figure out how old the earth was and see if they can do anything about it. William smith: guy that created the first geological map, he is the founder of geology. Sir william logan: first to create a cross-section map of a land (whales). He did a cross section of where the coal is. Alfred wegener: he proposed the idea that continents drift, it started with pangea and then they broke down to others, he evidence was based on the rocks he found. Moving continents: continents do move, the alfred guy said it and it was proven later on, pangea. Time and geology: deep time when geology was getting involved. Most of the time its just a slow change. A few millions of years is something fast for a geology person.
