Geological layering of ontario (top to bottom): layer vi: the current geological form of ontario formed by the last period of glaciation. Covered by city structures such as streets, buildings, landfills and artificially reshaped landscapes: layer iii: pleistocene glacial sediments formed within the last 2. 5 million years and are up to 200 m thick. This layer of rock contains fossils of marine organisms: layer i: archean and proterozoic canadian shield rocks that date back 1000- 3000 million years old and are at least 40 km thick with the only life form existing being bacteria.
