EESA06H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Magnetometer, The Mantle, Rift Valley
Document Summary
Many geological process that allow the earth to constantly change are explained by plate tectonics. Plate tectonics theory suggest that earth is divided into several large plates that change in posiion and size. Intense geologic acivity, such as volcanic erupions and earthquakes occur at plate boundaries. Part 1: moving coninents (coninental drit) and moving sea loor (sea-loor spreading) were combined to form the theory of plate tectonics. Part 2: processes that operate at plate boundaries and the economic deposits and environmental hazards are associated with them. Tectonics : is the study of the origin and arrangement of the broad structural features of the. Earth"s surface, including not only the fold and faults, but also mountain belts, coninents and earthquake belts. Main idea of plate tectonics: is that the earth"s surface is divided into large, thick plates that move slowly and change in size.
