GGRA03H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Green Wall, Le Corbusier, Radiant City
Document Summary
The death and life of great american ciies. Atack on principles and aims that have shaped modern, orthodox city planning and building. Bad planning does not help, just wastes money. City planners think that transport is the key to ixing ciies, but there are more social and economic concerns too. Successful city needs constant mutual support, both economically and socially. Planners need to understand what people need in an area before planning. Banks wouldn"t give loans, the money came from business and housing earnings within the district and skilled work among residents: they will never get loans and patching and ixing things up would not work forever. City planners are like doctors who put their faith in bloodleing (analogy) Don"t look at it as what a city should look like. Decentrists wanted to decentralize great ciies ad disperse their enterprises and populaions into smaller, separated ciies/towns.
