Geography
ā¢Geographers have focused on the ways in which space and place aļ¬ect peoples
wellbeing#
ā¢Geographers examine natural and artiļ¬cial environments and how these inļ¬uence
ones health#
ā¢Are interested in the connections b/w environment and socio-cultural and political
developments#
ā¢Have mapped the consequences of various geographical factors on health#
ā¢E.g. addressed issues regarding peoples proximity to HC facilities, sources of
disease and poor health#
Ethics
ā¢Field of HC ethics addresses questions of morality in a variety of health- related
contexts, including public health interventions#
ā¢Ethicists explore moral dimensions of our attempts to maintain, improve and manage
health, casting a critical eye upon topics such as informed consent, right to die,
reproduction and the provider-client relationship #
ā¢Ethics is concerned with issues s/a equity, and human dignity #
Conceptual Fields
ā¢Contribution from conceptual ļ¬elds have drawn attention to the relationship b/w
broader social structures and individual or local experiences, whether these are in
the form of structural barriers, systemic inequalities and/or sustained
disadvantages
ā¢e.g. In cultural studies, scholars have underscored the ways in which ethnicity and
cultural identiļ¬cation inform understandings of health and illness#
