Current Events According to a study released on Monday, North Americans arent getting enough sleep as they need. The growing habit of using computers, laptops, tvs, and other electronic devices in the hour before bedtime is not helping The US-based National Sleep Foundatiod nid this annual poll of Americans. They asked people when it comes to late night use of computers, tvs, etc, they wanted to know what their pattern of usage of this technology was. They learnt that artificial light exposure bw dusa knd the time we go to bed at night suppressteh serelease of melatonin. Melatonin is important for sleep, so if you suppress it then you dont have enough of it when you go to sleep. As a result, you are more alert and have difficulties falling asleep. Another problem they ascertain is that many peoplteogsoleep with their cell phone on theirbedside tabl.eSo they are awakenedtih fey get a message or c.all Sleeping affects the aging process. As we get older we have more difficulties with sleep. Dr. Robert Butlerdid study on problems with sleeN p. ed 7-8 hoursof sleep. If you dont get enough sleep, it can le taddepression, obesity, diabetes,. etc Sleep is usually a marker. If someone is always tired, there might be an underlying condition as to why. For example, people suffering from hypothyroidism would be tired. Another example im s ultiple sclerosi;sone of thsymptoms is fatigu.e sleep is important in aging successfully In the survey, young people bw ages of13-18years old were apparently th meost tired of all respondents. Thewyere sleepier than even baby boom .Trsey were napping bc they were tired. Lack of sleep causing problems for them. Effecting mood, family life, social life, and ability to do any workschool work. Approximately110 people from this survey said they were beia nwgakene d from their sleep from calls, e-mails, texts at night. www.notesolution.com
