Studying how media texts influence the way we think abt world as political + social beings. Media= represent only partial vision of society (in terms of social constructs like class, race, gender, etc) Worldviews represented by media= of the socially powerful/privileged groups. Culture: collection of artifacts, practices & beliefs of particular group of ppl @ particular historical moment; supported by symbolic systems & directed by ideology. 3 building blocks of culture: physical-> artifacts; any material aspects of daily life w/widely shared meaning + manifest group identification (national, social, political) E. g. "s: (cid:272)lothes, (cid:373)usic, tv shows, cars, comps, etc; i. e: any manufactured item: social-> social codes & rules governing the artifacts. Practices + customs of daily life; i. e. : social conventions. Shared, lived experiences: attitudinal-> particular ways of understanding the world. The overarching ways a culture makes sense of world & itself (the culture) Ppl= often part of multiple cultures (e. g. : your background, your school, your occupation, etc)
