Document Summary

The belief that we should continuously develop and implement new technologies. The ultimate goal of technological development is usually financial gain. Technological determinism: the belief that new technological innovations will shape society and they will be used to their full capacity, does not consider the forces behind technological development, or the influence of government and business. Internet can be easily be used for dictatorship or terrorism as for democracy. Example: titanic, the ship was viewed as unsinkable because it was the latest and the greatest product oh human ingenuity. Media convergence: media silos: in a converged multi-platform media environment, specific media platforms (ex. Radio, television, newspapers, magazines) that aren"t converged: convergence: the merging of previously distinct media technologies and media forms through digitalization and computer networking. Result is what we are witnessing today: breaking down of meaningful distinctions between media forms. We listen to music music on our smart phones, we watch television on our laptops.
