Document Summary

Media studies: an interdisciplinary topic, drawing from humanities, social sciences, film studies, english, drama, sociology, psychology, anthropology etc. This involves the study of media related to social theory and how media in terms of industries, messages, and audiences shapes knowledge, perception, and understanding. Somatic learning involves learning through sensory perception of our environment ex. smell, taste, feel, look etc. The majority of learning occurs symbolically, where things that we know are learned through someone or something known as a medium. Medium: an indirect channel through which information is passed, derived from the latin medius meaning middle , inferring that it comes between ex. the television displaying discovery channel comes between us and the ocean floor. Media includes any form of communication such as a person, photograph, television, radio, film, internet, book, museum etc. In the past, most information was passed slowly on through humans with the risk of information being slightly altered from one person to the next.
