Employment is the total no. of people aged 15 or above currently employed, either full-time or part-time. An individual aged 15 or above is considered to be unemployed if he or she is: not employed; 2) is available for work; and 3) has been actively looking for a job during the past four weeks. Individuals on temporary layoffs and those waiting for new job to start in the next four weeks or less are considered unemployed if satisfy 1&2. Maternity leave or paternity leave is not considered. If certain conditions are met, they may qualify for employment insurance (ei) benefit payment similar to those received by some unemployed workers. Labour force: the sum of employment and unemployment. In some ways the unemployment rate exaggerates the difficulty people have in finding jobs due to frustration over the lack of job opportunities. Employment rate can overstate/understate the true value of unemployment.
