What is a group?- a group consists of two or more people interacting interdependently to achieve a common goal. Interaction is the most basic aspect of a group. Exert a tremendous influence on us 2. allow us to exert an influence on others. Formal work groups- groups that are established to facilitate the achievement of organizational goals. Most common consist of an manager and employees that report to the manager. Task forces and project teams are temporary groups that meet to achieve a particular goal. Committees are usually permanent groups that handle recurrent assignments outside the usual work group structures. Informal groups- groups that emerge naturally in response to the common interests of organizational members: forming- early stage where group members try to orient themselves by testing the water. The situation is often ambiguous and members are aware of their dependency on each other: storming- this is where conflict occurs.
