Heart not brain considered to hold the soul probably wrong. Hippocrates: brain was for sensation and intelligence. Aristotle: heart for intelligence, temperament of humans due to cooling capacity of brain. Think: body is the computer, brain is the fan. If brain can"t cool the body enough, like a computer, it overheats and we lash out/have temper. Galen embraced hippocrates: cerebrum centre for sensation, cerebellum command muscles, ventricles: hollow spaces in the brain filled with fluid. Ren descartes: we are machines with souls, human mind distinct from brain. Gyri and sulci patter similar on all brains. 19th century views: brain injury disrupt sensation, movement and thought (and even death, brain communicate w/body via nerves, different brain parts have different functions, brain is machine that follows nature. Luigi galvani: muscles twitch when electricity stimulates them, electrochemical beings, 2 nerve fibres. Franz gall: phrenological map, phrenology: measure personality using bumps of the skull.
