NROC64H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: Anterior Grey Column, Stretch Reflex, Vestibular Nuclei
Document Summary
Final output from cns to muscle from motor neurons in ventral horn of spinal cord or in brainstem. Are large reflecting their axonal length & each controls scatter group of individual muscle fibres (=motor unit) Force is controlled partly by changes in the firing frequency of individual motor neurons. & partly by the process of recruitment in which more & more units are brought into play as required muscle tension increases. These cells represent the ultimate funnel via all ns excitation must pass for a motor act. Together they are called final common pathway: quantity of info that converges on single ventral horn cell is enormous & is reflected in huge sizes of dendrite tree. Great majority o f the descending tracts from the brain end up on then interneurons that from part of these reflexes mostly is about selection from the cord"s repertoire.
