Document Summary
Theda skocpol and ellen tremberger: revolutions a structural analysis. Karl marx"s theory on revolution linked the consequences and causes of revolutions directly to the historical emergence and transcendence of capitalism. Marx"s theory of revolution: marx described revolutions as only pertaining to certain types of societies and historical circumstances. Marx also stated that conscious and organized movement towards revolution only succeeded when there is an objectively revolutionary situation: men make their own history, but not in situations of their own choosing and not just as they please . Marx believed that class conflict played a substantial role in revolutions (which it does). Revolutions are sparked when there is a contradiction between social forces and social relations in productions. This leads to tension and conflict between the existing dominant class (in charge of production) and the revolutionary class. Revolutionary contradictions are internally generated within a society.
