In cases of corruption, power is highly centralized primitively focused and intense. The term corruption is too weak of a word to describe what happened in nigeria, but we can build on it. First and most innocuous (least harmful) type of corruption dash. Can take form of small bribes, presents," asian tea money, and favours. Such forms serve to overcome the passive aggression of a swift-moving society that is losing its village personalism and transparency while not yet developing the self-respect we call professionalism. Particularly prevalent when a low level of bureaucratic identity or corporate spirit (unregarded and unpoliced) makes such lubrication necessary, rational, and unshameful to either side. May or may not act as a facilitator of the economies which stand behind these societies. Helps people at low levels of the bureaucracy in third world who may not be paid at all. Adds an arbitrary level of fiddling and cost to every transaction.
