Five characteristics of quality scientific research: quality scientific research meets the following criteria. It is based on measurements that are objective, valid and reliable. Inter-rater reliability raters agree on the measurements that were taken. Important for researchers to double check whether or not results occurred by chance: replication process of repeating a study and finding a similar outcome each time. Module 2. 2: scientific research designs: research design a set of methods that allows a hypothesis to be tested. Naturalistic observation: observe people in their natural settings, naturalistic observations unobtrusively observe and record behaviour as it occurs in the subject"s natural environment. Surveys and questionnaires: self-reporting a method in which responses are provided directly by the people who are being studied, typically though face-to-face interviews, phone surveys, paper and pencil tests, and web- based questionnaires. Individuals speak for themselves: care must be taken not to make biased questions that could affect results one way or another.
