Most human activities are social; require us to interact with others. Behav affects the way others act and their behav affect our actions. Social psychology: the branch of psych that studies our social nature how the actual, imagined, or implied presence of other influences our thoughts, feelings and behav. The imp ppl in our lives shape our emotions, thoughts, and personalities. Our percep (private, solitary events) are shaped by interactions w/ ppl: social cognition. Social cognition: the processes involved in perceiving, interpreting, and acting on social info. Understanding social behav requires attention to the person s enviro; phys and social. We form impressions of others based on casual observation or reports from others. Social psych is trying to figure out how to form these impressions. Impression formation: the way in which we integrate info about another s traits into a coherent sense of who the person is.
