Motivation: concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the initiation (motives) of behaviors that direct organisms toward specific goals. Drive: a biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed. When satisfied, reward centre of the brain is activated. Homeostasis: the body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment. Allostasis: motivation is not only influenced by current needs, but also by the anticipation of future needs. Due to imperfect prediction of the future, psychological variables can have strong influence on behaviors. On-off button for hunger found in few regions of the hypothalamus (nuclei found on the bottom surface of the brain) Stimulate ventromedial regions hypothalamus cause rats to stop eating. Influenced by hormones that are released in response to the energy needs of my body.
